Course Details

The Government Polytechnic for Women offers Training in Architectural Assistantship to Women of creative ability and natural sense of design. As the demand for more and more Architectural Assistants, Draughtsmen Designers grew, the need for Training students in the line was keenly felt, not only for the excellent employment opportunities but also as a measure of diversification.

Objective of the Course:

To train Students to become able Architectural Assistants in Architect’s Offices, Government Departments connected with Architecture and Town Planning and other Private and Public Sector undertakings, dealing with Architecture.

Course Description:

The Course follows a Sandwich pattern, whereby students are trained in the Institute and under different well known Private Architects. The curriculum for Architecture department will start from the first year onwards.

Semester III -  Institutional Study
Semester IV -  Institutional Study
Semester V -  Institutional Study
Semester VI -  Institutional Study
Semester VII      -  Professional Training

During the period of Institutional Study, the students are trained in subjects like Architectural Drawings, Basic Design, Freehand Sketching, interior Decoration and Drawing, History of Architecture, Architectural Design, Building Services, Structural Engineering, Architectural Rendering, Model Making, Office Practice, AutoCAD, etc., as detailed in the Curriculum of Study and Examination.

During the Professional Training the students are trained in the preparation of working drawings and estimates, architectural rendering, office practice and Presentation Drawings. This enables them to face any sort of job connected with building design and construction and also design of interiors as soon as they complete the course.

Employment Opportunities:

The Students who take a Diploma in this course have bright employment prospects in Central and State Government Departments, Public Sector undertaking and local bodies or in Private Architectural Firms. The main Government Departments employing these Diploma holders are the PWD, Town Planning and Post and Telegraph Departments. The study of interior decoration and drawing is an added asset as the diploma holder could be employed in firms undertaking interior design and decoration they may even be self employed.
