REQUIREMENTS FOR EXAMINATIONS AND ATTENDANCE

Examination shall be conducted in both theory and practicals. A candidate will be permitted to appear for the Autonomous Board’s Examinations in each Semester only if:

(i) She secures not less than 80% of attendance in the subjects concerned.

Examinations

Autonomous Board Examinations in all subjects of all the Semesters under the Scheme of Examinations will be conducted at the end of each Semester.

The sessional marks in all the subjects will be awarded on the basis of continuous internal assessment made during the semester year concerned.

PASSING REQUIREMENTS

Engineering / Garment Technology

For a pass in subject of theory including drawing examinations a candidate should secure a minimum of 30 marks out of maximum marks of 75 in the Autonomous Board’s Examination alone.

(ii) A candidate shall be declared to have passed the examination in a subject if she secures not less than 40% in theory subject and 50% in practicals of the total prescribed maximum marks for both sessional and Autonomous Board’s Examination put together. This statement is applicable for all courses.

Modern Office Practice

A candidate shall be declared to have passed the examination in a subject if she secures not less than 40% in theory subjects and 45% in Typewriting and Shorthand and 50% in practicals of the total prescribed maximum marks for both sessional and Autonomous Board’s Examination put together.

Note:

1. Candidates who have not passed Lower Grade Typewriting (English or Tamil) at the end of III Semester will not be permitted to appear for the Typewriting Higher Grade Examination at the end of Semester IV.

2. In the case of Shorthand, candidates will be permitted to appear for the examinations in the next Grade (English Intermediate or Tamil Higher as the case may be) only after passing the Lower Grade paper I and II.

Candidates appearing for Autonomous Examinations should secure (a) a minimum of 40% in theory and 50% in practicals of the total prescribed maximum marks for both sessional and Examination marks.

The following is the maximum time limit permitted for the completion of all the Diploma Courses:

(i) Regular students admitted in I year … 6 years

(ii) HSC Vocational Students admitted in … 5 years III Semester

(iii) Sandwich Diploma Course of 3 ½ years … 7 years

(iv) Post Diploma Course (Full-time) … 4 years (All courses of one year and one and half year duration – Annual or semester Pattern)

(v) Certificate Courses … 3 years

Attendance

Minimum attendance of 80% is prescribed for each course of study. (Includes Lecture hours, Tutorial hours, Assignment and Test).

Regular attendance at Lecture, Laboratory and Workshops is required for students. Any student absenting herself for more than 20% of the working days in the year will be prohibited from appearing for the final examination. Students should on no account stay away from classes without sending a leave letter. In case of stipendiaries, leave shall not be taken for any cause other than illness. Failure to confirm with this rule will result in the curtailment of the day’s stipend.

DECLARATION OF CLASS

Classification of Successful Candidates

(i) First Class with Honours

A candidate will be declared to have passed in FIRST CLASS WITH HONOURS if she secures not less than 75 % of the aggregate marks in all courses except First Year courses and passes all the above courses. In the first appearance itself and completes all papers including that of First Year within a stipulated period of 2 / 3 / 3½ years as the case may be.

(ii) First Class

A candidate will be declared to have passed in FIRST CLASS if she secures not less than 60 % of the aggregate marks in all courses except First Year courses and completes all papers including that of First Year within a stipulated period of 2 / 3 / 3½ years as the case may be.

(iii) Second Class

All other successful candidates will be declared to have passed in SECOND CLASS.
