DIPLOMA IN ELECTRONICS AND COMMUNICATION

Course Details


Diploma in Electronics (Radio Engineering) was introduced in the Government Polytechnic for Women, Madras in the year 1962. A Diploma in Electronics Engineering was awarded since 1974. Diploma in Electronics and Communications is being awarded since 1985. Duration of course is three years. The first year is common with civil, Instrument Technology and Architectural Assistantship, followed by 2 Semesters each in first, second and third Year.

Radio, Radar, Television, Computer, Automation, Nuclear Power manned and unmanned space exploration, communication by Telestar and many other modern accomplishments would be virtually impossible without a highly developed science of electronics. This science has provided us an alloy of investigative tools, labour saving devices, precision measuring and mass data processing and communication capability considered fantastic and improbable a few years ago. Science promises that future developments using applied electronics will be even more dynamic.

The electronic technician must not only have a knowledge of solid state devices and understand their use but must also know about Integrated Circuits and Microprocessors.

Objective of the Course :

The objective of the course is to produce a competent electronic technician. The technician must be capable of working individually and communicating directly with Engineers, Scientists and Production personnel in their specialised work satisfactorily performing work for the employer and growing into position of increasing responsibility.

Job Opportunities:

The students who take the Diploma in Electronics and Communication course have bright employment prospects in both State Governments and in Central Government Organisations like the AIR, Doordharshan, Post and Telegraph, Panchayat Radio Services, BSNL, ISRO, Railways etc.

Besides, they are also employed in Private Organisations and Engineers and in Supervisory Cadre capable of working individually and communicating with Engineers, Scientists and Production personnel.

A few of our Students take up entrepreneurship thus providing employment to others.
